She graduated from The University of Queensland in 1983, with Honors in Medicine and holds an Academic Title as Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine, UQ. In 2013, she completed her PhD in Physician Health. Her thesis focussed on understanding how doctors access health care for themselves. Dr Kay is actively involved in training doctors and medical students to better understand their health and wellbeing, including how doctors can deliver quality care to doctors. She has over 25 peer-reviewed publications, many in the area of doctors’ health and regularly presents at national and international conferences on doctors’ health issues with a focus on enabling transformative change within the complexity of the health care environment. She is a member of the Australasian Doctors’ Health Network and a member of AMA Queensland.

Dr Kay continues to work part-time in General Practice and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She also has clinical and research expertise in refugee health and is the Clinical Lead in Multicultural Health with the Brisbane South Primary Health Network.
