Dr Sophie Watson 

Dr Sophie Watson is the Company Secretary and Board Secretariat for Queensland Doctors’ Health Programme. She works as a resident medical officer at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and has recently graduated with a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Queensland. Sophie appreciates first-hand the importance of mental health support services in the lives of doctors and medical students, particularly in regional Queensland, where she spent the final two years of her studies at Toowoomba Base Hospital. Additionally, with eight years of volunteer committee experience, Sophie understands the challenges facing not-for-profit incorporated organisations. In the healthcare charity space, she serves as a director of the Vacseen Project, a not-for-profit providing accessible healthcare to homeless and vulnerable Queenslanders. She is passionate about good governance, having completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Company Directors Course, funded through the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine’s Bev Rowbotham Scholarship for Doctors on Boards. Prior to studying medicine, Sophie completed a Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland, with a major in biomedical sciences, where she received first-class honours, a university medal, UQ Employability Award & UQ Future Leader award. In her spare time, Sophie enjoys playing cello with Queensland Medical Orchestra and social volleyball.
