Dr Di Khursandi – Director
Dr Diana Strange Khursandi is an English-trained anaesthetist, who has been in Australia for over 40 years. She has been in both public and private practice in Maryborough and Caboolture.
Her interest in doctors’ health began 30 years ago, as a result of her personal experiences, which are outlined in the BMJ article she authored in 1998, titled “Stars Disappear”. As a testament to her passion for doctors’ health, Dr Khursandi subsequently co-founded the Welfare (now Wellbeing) of Anaesthetists Special Interest Group (SIG) in 1995, a tripartite body supported by ANZCA, the ASA and the NZSA. She played a major role in developing and revising the Resource Documents of the SIG. In this way, Dr Khursandi provides the Board with expertise in navigating the many complex structures associated with the Australian medical landscape.
She has been a Director on the QDHP Board since its inception, and on the Management Committee of the DHAS(Q) for 20 years. She was an ANZCA Councillor for 11 years, with several roles in the College. As a result, Dr Khursandi brings cumulatively more than three decades of medical leadership and governance experience to the QDHP Board.
Her other professional interest is in education, having held a Director of Clinical Training position for 13 years, supervising and supporting junior doctors. She has given many presentations on Doctors’ Health at local, state, national and international conferences, building strong rapport within the doctors’ health community. She is currently surveying retired anaesthetists, enabling her to bring additional insight to the Board on their valuable experiences.
Apart from occasional medico-legal work and doctors’ health activities, she is now fully retired and able to enjoy spending time with her family and her many hobbies.
